Woven With Meaning

Every bag carries a story

Our bags are made from kanga and leso — the bright printed cotton of East Africa. For generations, women have worn the kanga to mark moments and pass on wisdom; each cloth even carries a printed Swahili proverb, the jina.

We gather fabrics from different communities and cultures across Kenya, so no two bags are alike. Carry one, and you carry a piece of that story — while helping the woman who made it write her own.

Mary’s Story

One sewing opportunity.
A movement of women.

Mary Nduta’s journey began with the Global Bag Project, where she designed sturdy, reusable bags in bright kanga fabric — and turned her sewing skills into food on the table and school fees for her children.

Today she runs her own enterprise, training women in villages across Kenya to do the same.

“I can employ more women, because there are so many other ladies out there who are suffering.” — Mary
